Welcome back to another ShortCUT with RA! I’m Andrew, the “A” in RA. Today I'm going to tell you why you shouldn't do your best.

Yep, you heard that correctly! Watch the whole video for the story about why you shouldn’t do your best. Now, of course. I'm always going to try to do my best. I'm always going to work to be the best digital marketer that I can be for our financial advisor clients. But if I am always saying, "Hey, I'm going to do my best. I'm going to make sure I do my best," and I put that out there on a regular basis, and then my best isn't good enough, they're not going to hire me again.

So that's it, really. I'm not saying that you shouldn't do your best. I think you should do your best, but I would caution you against saying things like, "I'm going to do my best," or, "I'm going to work my hardest," because in my opinion anyway, when those statements are made, what's actually being said is, "I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do it, but I'm going to try to make you feel better about that."

Andrew from RA here with another ShortCUT. Today I want to talk to you about whether or not it's better to have one meal a year, a big huge feast or eat every single day.

Kind of obvious, I know. Of course it's better to eat consistently, it's healthier to eat consistently but really the reason this came up, we were talking with another financial advisor who is considering us for his marketing plans next year. He mentioned that when he first started, results were high and converted for less.

I mean, it's a silly analogy, but when I was talking to this advisor and he told me his issue, I said, "Man, it sounds to me like you got a couple of feasts early in the year. You had these huge meals that you were able to enjoy but haven't really had anything to eat since. How do you think that's going to work out for you? Do you think it's better to eat consistent small portions throughout the year rather than one huge feast at the beginning?" He said, "Well of course, that makes a lot of sense." So when we talk about territory responsibility, it's not because we're cheap, it's not because we're trying to kind of shortchange anybody. What we're trying to do is make it possible for you to have sustainable marketing all year round rather than one huge campaign right at the beginning.

Just remember, the next time you're working with a marketing company, if they get you these enormous results and they promise you hundreds of registrations every single time that they run a campaign for you, just know that unless you're in a huge, huge market, that's probably not possible. And you need to exercise some territory responsibility and make sure that you kind of portion out your marketing throughout the year as opposed to blasting the territory a few times early in the year and then seeing some significant drop off later on here.

Welcome to another ShortCUT with RA! Today I have a tip for all of you running seminars.

One of the first things advisors ask about is: what is the attendance like? How many people are going to be at my seminar? Our data shows that on average, we have 50% attendance from those who sign up.

The other day, I was speaking with a client, let's call her Kathy, who reported 80% attendance. 80%! I was flabbergasted. And so I said, "Hey, Kathy. What did you do? What..." You know, "What was it that made your attendance so good?" And she's like, "Andrew, I didn't do anything special. I just literally followed your instructions and your best practices word for word, step-by-step. Didn't deviate at all, did exactly what you told me to do." It's almost as if we know what we're doing.

It sounds a little arrogant, but the reality is we do run a lot of these seminars and we do them all the time. We've developed our best practices around that. I can promise you is that if you follow our best practices, you will have better results than if you do not follow us, our best practices.

I am excited to be dropping these weekly with my good buddy Richy! I am super pumped to talk to you today about a huge mistake that I made recently. I want to go through what I did, why it happened, and what we can do to avoid it in the future.

You need to have a system in place and proper communication throughout your entire team to make sure mistakes (like the one I made) don't happen. However, in the event that mistake are made, it's important to have backups in place. Mistakes are going to happen, but attention to detail and having a system in place that is redundant, will save you from a huge amount of work in the future.
